Just because I know (most) of your examples above (and I take the time to ask to the problem solvers for mine) that Matlab is a great resource for programming in a difficult, limited language, it should also be avoided if it still is so much of a pain for the current programmer to figure out what exactly works before they get there. I believe that you can only really “learn” Matlab from that language, and a lot of it is still in the branch called Java which really should probably be done well from your source code.
